Biography
Professor Jonathan Barratt leads the Renal Research Group at the College of Life Sciences, University of Leicester. His research focuses on advancing the understanding of the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy—a major global cause of kidney failure—through a bench-to-bedside approach that bridges scientific discovery and clinical application.
Professor Barratt serves as the IgA Nephropathy Rare Disease Group Lead for the UK National Registry of Rare Kidney Diseases (RaDaR) and is a member of the steering committee for the International IgA Nephropathy Network. His collaborations with pharmaceutical companies center on the development and assessment of innovative treatments for IgA nephropathy.
As Chief Investigator for several international Phase 2 and 3 randomized controlled clinical trials, Professor Barratt plays a pivotal role in groundbreaking research. He has also contributed to the FDA and American Society of Nephrology Kidney Health Initiative Workgroup on Identifying Surrogate Endpoints for Clinical Trials in IgA Nephropathy, further underscoring his global influence in nephrology.
