Biography

Professor Tak Mao Daniel Chan is a distinguished Chair Professor and Yu Chiu Kwong Professor in Medicine at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He also serves as Chief of the Nephrology Division in the Department of Medicine at the School of Clinical Medicine, HKU, and the Hong Kong West Cluster Hospitals under the Hospital Authority.

A graduate of HKU, Professor Chan holds prestigious qualifications including MBBS, MD, and DSc degrees. He received advanced training in Nephrology and Internal Medicine at HKU and Guy’s Hospital in London, UK. Professor Chan is a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians in the UK, further affirming his expertise in medicine.

Throughout his career, Professor Chan has held significant leadership roles. At HKU, he has been an Associate Dean, a member of the University Senate, and a member of the University Council. His contributions extend to the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, where he chaired the Clinical Coordinating Committee (Medicine).

Professor Chan's influence is global. He has served as President of the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology, a Council Member of the International Society of Nephrology, and an Executive Committee Member of the Asian Society of Transplantation. Domestically, he has contributed significantly to the Hong Kong College of Physicians, where he has chaired the Nephrology Board and the Education and Accreditation Committee. Since 2022, he has held the prestigious position of President of the Hong Kong College of Physicians.

With decades of expertise, Professor Chan is a leading authority in nephrology, medical education, and clinical leadership, making substantial contributions to the advancement of medicine in Hong Kong and internationally.
